Welcome Message from Dougal Hewitt
Thursday Oct 27, 2022
Thursday Oct 27, 2022
Hello I'm Dougal Hewitt, Chief Mission Officer for Providence St. Joseph Health. And it's a pleasure to welcome you to a new caregiver experience. We'd usually be meeting and greeting you in person, but in these COVID-19 times we're adapting to protect everyone's safety. So this is an abbreviated and an expedited version to help you get started with us. You are needed now more than ever. Thank you for saying yes to service with us. Your presence is critical. We are grateful that you've joined our team.
There's a story that unites all of us who serve within Providence St. Joseph Health. That's the one that may be familiar to you. It is the biblical story of the good Samaritan. It goes a bit like this... A man who was beaten and robbed was found in a ditch by a passerby- a Samaritan who stopped to help. Others had crossed over on the other side- too busy or perhaps too afraid to help. The good Samaritan attended to the man's wounds, placed him on his donkey, took him to an inn, paid for him, and told the innkeeper that "If you care for him, I will repay you," so that the beaten man could recover.
The good Samaritan showed extraordinary compassion for a stranger. It's that kind of story that inspired the sisters of St. Joseph and the sisters of Providence, and the other founders of our ministries that now make up the Providence St. Joseph Health System. Those sisters passed on a legacy of extraordinary compassion to all of us. It is our hope that you're going to carry that tradition on in all that you do for our patients, for our residents, for our communities, and for one another- especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
Again, welcome and may our mission statement be an inspiration for you and may the five core values,
- Compassion
- Dignity
- Justice
- Excellence and
- Integrity...
Guide your service in these unprecedented times. Thank you and welcome.
